Please tell us what you like about the proposals. If you support the scheme, please tell us, or if there are specific parts of the proposals you support please tell us.

I support the proposals. Whilst I couldn't get to see all of the details on Saturday I'm pleased to see that the lake will be made more natural (and cleaner?). I'm also very pleased to see that we will finally get proper cycle routes across the park. Hopefully the plan will make it onto this website so we can have another look.

These proposals are fine but I would like to make two additional comments.

[1] If there is no plan to do so there needs to be a full survey of the wild life in the park at present so that we can be sure that the changes will help to keep and increase those that we want. Also we need advice on potential desirable wildlife so we can plan to attract it.

[2] The matter of cycling needs a full investigation. Cyclist are an important part of the community [and one which, being green, is supposed to be getting support] and therefore you should either make provision for them OR explain clearly why you cannot. Otherwise I do not see how a funding application can succeed when it leaves out this important section of the population.

Cyclists and pedestrains coexist on the routes made on old railway tracks, in many other parks and throughout the country on hundreds of miles of dual use paths. Why then would Verulamium Park be different? Perhaps it would be but, if this is the case, we need to have it explained why this would be so. But if, on the other hand, it cannot be explained why the Park is different from other places where cyclists and pedestrians coexist happily, opposition to controlled cycling should be dismissed as prejudice and provision made.

I support the proposals as a member of The Friends of Verulamium Park and of St.Albans and District Model Engineering Society.
As a regular user I am pleased that the boating lake is to be retained. It provides a great deal of interest to members of the public in addition to the members of SADMES.
The the corner of the boating lake adjacent to the childrens' splash feature is very shallow and often becomes a "beach" when the water level is low. This is then fouled by a concentration of Canada Geese etc. If this corner could be deepened to match the rest of the boating lake it would help to improve water quality and would eliminate an unsightly and smelly area.
An increase in the water flow through both lakes would also improve the water quality to the benefit of humans and widlife.

I support the proposals.

I also support cycling in the park which I feel would make a positive contribution to a number of the key issues identified:
- Protect archaeological assets - by cutting down numbers arriving by car
- Increase heritage interest - by reducing the need for wide roads, extensive car parks
- Increase ecological value - by reducing pollution
- Increase the role of the park in the city - as a destination and a safe through route for cyclists as well as pedestrians
- Improve and integrate facilities in the park
- Explore opportunities for new facilities and events
- Improve connections through the park
- Improve links to the surroundings

Dear Sir , I have read the Verulamium park proposals . I broadly support them . However , I do not agree with cutting geese numbers .The flights of geese over the town are one of the marvels of St Albans particularly in the autumn . Geese have been here since at least Roman times. They are a connection with those times and have just as much right to be here as the human population .Secondly , no more cars in the car park thank you very much .Lazy Britons need to walk more of that obesity off , not drive everywhere . St .Albans needs much more car restriction .Thirdly , if the railings round the Roman wall are removed , how can we guarantee that the yobos won't vandalise it ? It is a prime archaeological site we are talking about . Sir Mortimer Wheeler will be turning in his grave over that proposal .Fourthly , I would like to see Lord and Lady Verulam ,snug in their oh-so-private Gorhambury , giving their fields containing the Roman remains to the City of St. Albans so that the people can walk right round the walls on a new pathway .How about allowing the hoi polloi in on that part of the estate , Mi'Lord and Mi'Lady ?
Yours Sincerely ,
Andrew Inglis .

One of the main functions of the park should be to encourage outdoor recreation, particularly walking and cycling. I support the improvement of facilities for both within the park itself. Its important that there is some segregation between the two to avoid congestion or accidents. The entrance from Abbey Mill Lane needs improving and the paths will need widening. However my main point is that the park should act as a "shop window" to attract people out into the wider countryside. At present too many people get in their cars to drive elsewhere for a walk , not appreciating the countryside on their doorstep. As a minimum I'd suggest some display boards with information on local routes such as the Hertfordshire Way Ver Valley Walk, Alban Way and National Cycle Network, all of which pass through/close to the park, though you'd never guess it at present! It might be even better if a visitor centre could be established with information leaflets etc, maybe somewhere in the region of the Wildlife Trust & Museum?
