Background
A range of issues will be looked as part of the improvement plan.
- Roman heritage – how can we improve the conservation and interpretation of treasures, such as the Roman wall by the Causeway and the City of Verulamium, which is still undisturbed underground?
- New attractions – the splash park; hypocaust and play facilities attract many visitors every week - what new attractions could complement the environment and maintain the park as a top visitor location?
- Wildlife– the restoration of wildlife habitats, which are home to species such as herons and water voles, is a priority together with a plan for the renewal of trees.
- River and lake improvements – the ornamental lakes and River Ver are a major focus of the park but are also in need of improvements, especially to the water quality and the chalk stream.
- Education and learning – new opportunities for children and young people will aim to increase their understanding of the area’s history, geography, ecology and environment.
- New facilities – to make visiting the park an easier and more enjoyable experience – paths; toilets; parking; signage and catering will all be looked at.
- New visitors - how can the park be made accessible and attractive to all sections of the community, especially people with a disability?
Volunteers – the park has benefited from a number of volunteer run projects. How can residents and others become even more involved through volunteering?
